Long Way

Well oh my friends and I grew up in a little town.

Stayin’ up real late when childhood came around.

Living for our summer days and winter break.

Making more fun in school than our teachers could take.

Yeaahhh

Well every Friday night was never spent alone.

That house we spent our nights in became all of our own.

And we would say that things would always be that way.

Who knew that growing old could cause such disarray.

It’s a long way over

The clouds that block the sky.

And it’s a long way running

When you know you’d love to fly.

It’s a long way forward when you’ve got to say goodbye

But it’s a longer way back once time has slipped on by.

Well change will be

And change decides who we become.

So who were we to think

That change would never come.

Never gave real thought as to where we’d lead ourselves

…moving out and removing marker from the shelves.

And wishing childhood wasn’t so far in the past.

Wondering was there something to have done to make it last.

It’s a long way over

The clouds that block the sky.

And it’s a long way running

When you know you’d love to fly.

It’s a long way forward when you’ve got to say goodbye

But it’s a longer way back once time has slipped on by.

Goodbye, little boy

Wondering how the story ends.

I’m a man facing towards the future

Standing with my friends.

It’s a long way I’ve come and a long way I plan to go.

But where that may lead me, I guess it’s okay if I don’t know.

So it may be a long way back

To where I’ve been.

But still those memories

Will always make me grin.
